Review of another holiday
Today is Memorial Day, 2007. When I was a kid, we were dragged from cemetery to cemetery to place flowers on the graves of family members. Often, we'd see members of the VFW placing flowers and holding ceremonies in the cemeteries in memory of fallen comrades.
Memorial Day used to have more meaning that simply being the "official kick off of summer." Once again, Americans have taken something that had deep meaning and turned it into another excuse for exercising deplorable behavior. When you watch the news tomorrow, count the number of injuries and fatalities that resulted from drinking, partying and the other ways people "celebrate" this holiday.
The solemnity of Memorial Day is gone and the world is a sadder place for it.
